Book Review: Dune by Frank Herbert
Dune - mirrors the story of life - dazzling and frustrating - read then decide!
Summary:
Dune is a fantastic book that has inspired almost every Spacefaring adventure story since its conception. It starts off in the newly settled fortress of Duke Leo Atredeis, father of Paul Atreides, who is the main character. The book then introduces the mother of Paul, Jessica. After a while, the antagonist, Baron Harkonnen, is shown, plotting the downfall of the Atreides family. After his plan is executed perfectly, the Baron takes over the planet Arrakis, becoming the de facto controller of the spice trade. Paul, escaping into the desert with his mother, becomes a member of a freeman tribe. Freemen are the desert dwellers who ride the dune worms and harvest spice.
Later, he becomes the leader of all the freeman tribes and marries Channi, his wife. He then launches a war against the Harkonnen family and defeats them along with the galactic empire's allies. As part of the victory conditions, Paul Mudabi becomes the Emperor and marries the former emperors' daughter, securing his right to the throne. Thus, he begins the age of Mudabi, the god-emperor. At least, until his son takes over.
Recommendation:
5 Untangled Dots: Dune is a fantastic novel. It creates essential science fiction concepts in a fantastical novel that will delight all readers. The action is fast-paced, the story is intriguing, and the characters are extremely well developed. The plot can be confusing at first, but after the first few chapters become much clearer. This book is one of the best books I have ever read. I would recommend this book to everyone unless they don't like to read.
